Outbreak of Tescoitis

Britain would appear to be in the midst of a â??Tescoitisâ?? epidemic. The outbreak is thought to have originted in the Westminster area of London, but rapidly spread to the think-tanks and public policy consultants of the city.

Symptoms of the disease include:

* A feverish belief that supermarkets are the panacea to all ills in society and the focus for positive social change.

* A loss of sense of direction, frequently manifesting itself in a belief that the supermarket is the ‘centre of the community’

* A blindness to the potential conflict of interests implicit in housing doctors surgeries in buildings which owe their existence to the sale of tobacco, alcohol, junk food and the consumer trappings of a couch potato lifestyle.

Anyone suspecting that they may be succumbing to the Tescoitis infection should seek immediate attention from their high street pharmacist or community doctor, and avoid shopping malls and areas of high density corporate monocultures.
