Graphic Design in the first half of the twentieth century was grounded in the tenents of clean, minimalist design based on pure geometries of form, as outlined by the Bauhaus, and in the postwar period, by the Ulm School of Design (Hochschule fur Gestaltung Ulm), both of which had a significant influence on the development of modern graphics. What followed was an effort to institutionalise their principles and methods through the creation of house styles and corporate design programs that dissolved into overtly deterministic formulas—yielding, in the end, bland interpretations of these formerly fluid practises.

The companies that will stand out in the next year are one’s that are driven by high standards, innovation, creativity, and a desire to make (and be ed.) a difference.
